Roger Brooks, the CEO of Destination
Development International (DDI), and his staff will
be conducting a community assessment prior to and
during his visit to Rushford over a period of several
days.
While previous community assessments have
been based strictly on ho-hum census statistics and other
“hands-off” criteria with no follow-up strategies, Roger
Brooks will be looking specifically at Rushford from the
perspective of a visitor, and then evaluating and making
practical, useful, and do-able suggestions to enhance our
place on the SE Minnesota map. Here’s how it’ll be
done...
In the next few weeks, Roger’s staff will go
on-line to see what can be discovered about SE Minnesota,
systematically narrowing their search to
Rushford.
They will find out what they can about the terrain, the
people, the culture, what is available to consumers as
opportunities for unique
experiences.
Upon his arrival in Rushford, Roger will
spend several days, talking with local shopkeepers,
customers, and townspeople, asking questions that many of
our visitors ask, such as “What’s there to do in
Rushford?” or “Where’s the best place to eat
breakfast?”
With digital camera in hand, Roger will
pound the downtown Rushford pavement and capture the
good, the bad and the not-so-pretty of the business
community.
He will then incorporate the pictures and information
into an assessment presentation. That’s right! Your business may be
part of Roger’s PowerPoint presentation! And while some businesses may not show up as
an example of “the good” in Rushford, the opportunity
will be there to learn how to make them
better.
Roger Brooks promises to present a
delightfully entertaining and equally educational and
motivational workshop with practical, carry-away tips for
drawing the crowds to your business, and making Rushford
a destination. This workshop is designed for area
business owners, civic leaders and elected officials in
various boards and commissions, service
organizations, public employees, garden clubs, economic
development, tourism and marketing representatives
and citizens interested in teaming up
to further develop tourism in the Rushford
area.
Registration fees for the workshop, (over
$100 per person) are covered through a grant from the
Rushford Community Foundation, in cooperation with the
Rushford Area Chamber of Commerce.
Participants may apply for reimbursements
from other grant funds when they demonstrate follow-up
changes or improvements recommended in the
assessment.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a
customized professional destination assessment of
Rushford!
