The Root River Trail System is about to mark its 25th birthday. And to celebrate a quarter-century of its existence, events are being planned trail wide the weekend of Sept. 16-18, 2011. In cooperation with the Minnesota DNR, all of the towns on the trail system have been working to develop a variety of attractions perfect for spending an entire weekend in Southeast Minnesota. A complete listing of anniversary events taking place is listed at the website address below.

The Root River Trail System, including the Harmony-Preston Valley Trail, is responsible for bringing more than $25 million in outside income to Fillmore County each year*, creating jobs and encouraging business development. Southeast Minnesota has benefited economically for the past 25 years as the trail has spawned a tourism industry unimagined before its construction.

Trail enthusiasts near and far are encouraged to mark their calendars for the third weekend of September to celebrate 25 years of the Root River Trail System and its contribution to the quality of life in Southeast Minnesota.

This announcement brought to you as a service from the Rushford Area Chamber of Commerce - IMPORTANT UPDATE on ROOT RIVER TRAIL BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

Bridge construction has resumed on the Root River Trail between Lanesboro and Rushford - continuing for the next 1 to 2 weeks. All work will be below the deck on the concrete, so the trail will not be closed. There may be a generator on the bridge but trail users should be able to pass by, with caution. This affects bridge #18 and #24..

This announcement brought to you as a service from the Rushford Area Chamber of Commerce - IMPORTANT UPDATE on ROOT RIVER TRAIL BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

Osmose is pulling their crew off the RRT job to do some work in Michigan and probably won't be back on the Root until August. They are taking all their equipment and have left the confluence bridge open for use.

Information as of 6/28/11

Until the middle of July the only bridge being worked on is the big confluence bridge about 1.5 miles north of Lanesboro. The bridge is closed to trail users from 7am-6pm Mon- Fri, EXCEPT for this week where no bridge work will be done between Thursday evening and the following Wednesday morning, (June 30th – July 6th).

In the case of a government shutdown the contractor will not be working at all and the trail will remain open. It just would not be monitored or maintained.
